Breaking the Glass Ceiling of Embodiment
(From the Goddess Portal Podcast)
Too many of us get stuck chasing the high of embodiment practices—those blissful, intoxicating states that feel incredible in the moment… but don’t always create lasting change.
Think about an incredible massage. Yes, go get one. Melt into it. But don’t mistake that moment of bliss for true healing—it’s temporary.
True transformation isn’t about bypassing discomfort.
It’s about stepping into the deeper, messier layers—into the space where the reptilian brain still guards old wounds and survival patterns like a gatekeeper.
In this conversation, we explore how to go beyond surface-level embodiment into real, alchemical healing. You’ll learn what can shift through mindset and awareness, and what can only be transmuted through deep feeling and nervous system integration.
This is the work that turns practice into power, and embodiment into evolution.
What we’ll cover:
-
Breaking the “Healer’s High” Cycle

Navigating the Reptilian Brain

Feeling to Heal — The Art of Alchemy
1. Breaking the “Healer’s High” Cycle
You know that feeling when you leave a ceremony, a breathwork session, or a dance floor—heart open, energy flowing, fully alive in your body?
It’s intoxicating.
It’s beautiful.
And… for many, it’s a trap.
Here’s the truth:
Those expanded states? They’re a lift—sometimes even a dopamine hit—but they are not transformation.
We can get hooked on that high. Session after session, workshop after workshop—it feels like progress, and in some ways, it is. The nervous system opens, energy flows, and we taste what’s possible.
But then… we go home.
A text triggers us.
Old patterns resurface in our relationships.
Fear knocks at the door.
Suddenly, we’re back where we started—wondering why all the embodiment work hasn’t “fixed” it.
The distinction:
-
Temporary expansion: A peak moment where your body feels safe to open. It shows you what’s possible.
-
Lasting transformation: When that shift anchors into your daily reality—when your nervous system rewires, your subconscious updates, and the old patterns stop running the show.
That requires integration, repetition, and sometimes, entering the discomfort we’ve been avoiding. It’s having the hard conversation. Setting the boundary. Speaking your truth. Returning to self-love even when it’s messy.
Sometimes, embodiment becomes a form of spiritual bypass—a way to escape our shadows rather than meet them.
We dance, move, breathe… but never sit still long enough to listen.
If you want to break the healer’s high cycle:
-
Stop chasing the high.
-
Start anchoring the work.
-
Let peak states guide you like a compass—not a crutch.
In the quiet of your own space, ask questions. Look inward. Untangle the spaghetti noodles of your mind. Trace thoughts and worries to their roots. Collect the lost parts of yourself and bring them back into wholeness.
2. Navigating the Reptilian Brain
Your reptilian brain—the primal, ancient part of your mind—has one job: keep you alive.
It doesn’t care about your affirmations or vision boards. It doesn’t care about your purpose.
It equates familiar with safe—even if the familiar is toxic or painful.
So when you try to change—heal, grow, expand—your reptilian brain isn’t celebrating. It’s scanning for danger. And often, it sees change itself as dangerous.
This is why you can’t just “think” your way into a new life. If your nervous system doesn’t feel safe, your subconscious will reject the upgrade and pull you back into old patterns.
It’s not weakness. It’s biology.
The shift:
Stop forcing the mind to override the body. Rewire safety at the body level first. Talk to this primal part of yourself.
Key emotions to work with:
-
Fear — Don’t push it away. Sit with it. Remind your brain of all the times you’ve faced challenges and made it through.
-
Anger & Aggression — Instead of letting it sabotage, move it from the root chakra into the heart, wrapping it in love, then using it as clean, driving power.
-
Basic Drives — Whether you’re hangry, hormonal, or feeling primal urges, learn to soothe these states and integrate them into your sovereign energy.
Nervous system practices:
-
Breathwork: Shift from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest.
-
Grounding: Bare feet on the earth, rocking your hips, slowing your movements to anchor presence.
-
Micro-dosing fear: Facing challenges in small, manageable doses so your brain learns to trust you.
When you practice this consistently, your reptilian brain stops being the gatekeeper… and starts being your ally.
3. Feeling to Heal — The Art of Alchemy
Here’s the sacred truth many spiritual spaces skip over:
Not everything can be solved in the mind.
Some wounds aren’t asking to be “figured out.” They’re asking to be felt.
Your intuition knows what needs to be understood and what needs to be experienced.
For deep wounds—like assault, loss, or trauma—begin with the mind. Reframe the story. Find the silver lining. Step out of victimhood into sovereignty.
Then, in a safe, sacred space—through breathwork, ceremony, or embodied movement—allow your body to process it. Ask:
“Where do I hold this in my body?”
Move into that posture. Cry. Shake. Release.
Afterward, cleanse—sage, palo santo, smoke rituals—bringing awareness back into your body and sealing your energy.
Nature’s wisdom: Watch a gazelle escape a lion. Once safe, she drops and shakes, releasing the trauma from her body. We can do the same.
Your Body is Your Portal
Whether you’re in ceremony, breathwork, dance, or stillness—remember:
-
Don’t settle for the healer’s high.
-
Befriend your reptilian brain.
-
Feel to heal.
Your body is your sacred vessel. Care for it. Love it. Let it move energy with dignity and grace.
Because you, Goddess, are worth it.
Until next time—sending you a ray of sunshine and sweet blessings on your path. 🌞✨
